Either Jesus was a total wacko….or He was the real thing…God in the flesh, our Savior and redeemer! God alone has the ability and authority to redeem us, to forgive our sins. Jesus says, “But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” In His day, the religious authorities considered this blasphemous…worthy of death. Yet, directly after Jesus announces that HE has the authority to forgive sin……He clinches it with a healing of a paralytic man…..and even these religious men were amazed! Read More | Comments

Mark 2:5-9, God’s Power
Posted in: Gospel of Mark, New Testament
It always amazes me that people want to discount the spiritual power of God and put their faith in science. Now, let me say that I certainly believe in science! The more we discover the bigness and complexity of the universe as well as the smallness of all the details knitting everything together…the more, I believe, that God’s amazing power becomes evident! In fact, I have found that God’s power goes beyond all imagination! I see God’s power breaking through almost every day and it is so visible that it is hard for me to understand why we want to discount it as “coincidence” or just a fluke thing. No, it is what it is! God’s power breaking through and into our lives! Read More | Comments -

The Kingdom of Heaven-The Kingdom of God: Matthew 20:1, “”The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard”"
Posted in: Grace and Grits, Kingdom of Heaven
Jesus tells us that entrance into the kingdom of heaven is not earned, but given freely only because of God’s great generosity, which goes far beyond our human ideas of what is fair. Jesus goes further and clarifies the membership into the kingdom of heaven, that it is by God’s grace alone. In this parable, God is the landowner, believers are the laborers, and the vineyard is the kingdom of heaven. This parable speaks especially to those who feel superior because of heritage or favored position, to those who feel superior because they have spent so much time with Christ. It also speaks to new believers to reassure them of God’s grace. Read More | Comments -

A friend of mine once commented: “You are certainly blessed by the love of the scriptures and we are blessed for your interptation here. I would like to hear from you about your take on the story of Abraham and Isaac.”
Thank you for the kind comment. I would be happy to discuss this often misunderstood story from the Bible found in The 22nd chapter of Genesis. I believe to truly understand the message that God intends for us to receive, that we must always look at context in Scripture. Not only historical and cultural context but also textual context.
First let’s look closely at the Scriptural story as related in the book of Genesis 22:1-22 Read More | Comments

It’s not easy to hear God speak to us in a world that is fast paced with so many images and sounds blaring from every corner of our existence. Sometimes I really have to listen, I am constantly reminded of Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”. I look for opportunities to “be still”, to hear God’s gentle whisper in my heart. How do we know when God is speaking to us? Listen for the gentle and loving voice. Close your eyes and “be still”. Read More | Comments -

I was asked this simple question by a friend,“I have a question for you that I need your advice on. My 9 yr old, Jonathan and I talk a lot about the Lord, and he always ends up with the same question, ‘Mom, if God created everything, WHO created God.’ I try to explain that that is one of those answers that we will know when we get to the other side, and that it’s not meant for us to understand it right now. This is not going over well, and he is really struggling w/ some major doubt. How have you handled this in the past & do you have any recomendations on what to tell him? To tell you the truth, this is a ? I’ve wrestled w/ myself! lol Thanks!”
This is a tough question, I believe, simply because of our view of who God is. I also believe that we must always go back to Scripture and that Scripture reveals all things. Read More | Comments
