It always amazes me that people want to discount the spiritual power of God and put their faith in science. Now, let me say that I certainly believe in science! The more we discover the bigness and complexity of the universe as well as the smallness of all the details knitting everything together…the more, I believe, that God’s amazing power becomes evident! In fact, I have found that God’s power goes beyond all imagination! I see God’s power breaking through almost every day and it is so visible that it is hard for me to understand why we want to discount it as “coincidence” or just a fluke thing. No, it is what it is! God’s power breaking through and into our lives! Read More | Comments

Mark 2:1-4, Dont Wait!
Posted in: Gospel of Mark, New Testament
Why is it that often we WAIT before bringing our needs to Jesus? Why do we hesitate? Busy schedules, our own pride, list of things that need to be done…all these things mean little to Jesus. He wants our hearts and He wants us to come to Him. Why wait? Jesus, the healer is eager to touch you and make you whole. Don’t hesitate….go to Him now! Read More | Comments -

Bible Difficulties: Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons, Matthew 8:28-34 & Mark 5:1-20
Posted in: Bible Difficulties
A friend of mine asked me today about the story in the book of Matthew in which Jesus drives the demons out of two men and into a herd of pigs who all go over a cliff and die. In the end, the townspeople all tell Jesus to leave. In Matthew 8:34 we read, “And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.” Interestingly enough, in many of the other stories recounting the miracles that Jesus performed, people praised Him, and begged him to stay. So, what is actually being said here? Why do these people beg Jesus to leave their region after witnessing such a miracle? Let’s look at this difficulty and discover the rest of the story. -

A friend of mine once commented: “You are certainly blessed by the love of the scriptures and we are blessed for your interptation here. I would like to hear from you about your take on the story of Abraham and Isaac.”
Thank you for the kind comment. I would be happy to discuss this often misunderstood story from the Bible found in The 22nd chapter of Genesis. I believe to truly understand the message that God intends for us to receive, that we must always look at context in Scripture. Not only historical and cultural context but also textual context.
First let’s look closely at the Scriptural story as related in the book of Genesis 22:1-22 Read More | Comments

The Kingdom of Heaven-The Kingdom of God: Matthew 19:23 / Mark 10:23, 24, & 25 / Luke 18:24 & 29, “The Rich Young Man”
Posted in: Bible Difficulties, Kingdom of Heaven
As I studied this story in Scripture here in the Gospel of Matthew 19:16-26 as well as the Gospels of Mark 10:17-27 and Luke 18:18-27, I realized that there was a meaning that I had never seen. I realized that this Scripture is often taken out of context and that also, because it was taken out of context, I always thought that it was ignored. I had always believed, because that was what was taught me in church, that the story of the rich young ruler meant that it was impossible to achieve eternal life if a person were rich. I always wondered why we did not give all our possessions away as Christians and live communally. Actually, this is a story of God’s grace and sovereignty. Read More | Comments -

A friend of mine, Heather, asked me this question the other day. I love these kind of questions because often it is hard to wrap our mind around things that happened in ancient history, especially Biblical things.Q: “What happened to Jesus between the ages of 12 and 30? Is there a gap in the story? Please advise” Read More | Comments

It’s not easy to hear God speak to us in a world that is fast paced with so many images and sounds blaring from every corner of our existence. Sometimes I really have to listen, I am constantly reminded of Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”. I look for opportunities to “be still”, to hear God’s gentle whisper in my heart. How do we know when God is speaking to us? Listen for the gentle and loving voice. Close your eyes and “be still”. Read More | Comments -

“….we read a good amount of Romans. We ended up discussing how we are saved by faith alone, but I couldn’t help but disagree. James 2:24 clearly says we are not saved by works alone, and Matthew 7:21 says “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kindgom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven”. Ephesians 2:8-10 also addresses two different kind of works, and I also heard somewhere that “Faith must Act or it isn’t Faith”.
I don’t know if there are any contradictions in the Bible, but clearly there’s something going on with Romans and James. Am I missing something here? To be honest I don’t like questioning the Bible, but I don’t think that we are saved by faith alone. If you can help me out with this in anyway I would greatly appreciate it. I know you’re the one person I can count on for this kind of stuff!!!” Read More | Comments
