We have seen that waiting patiently for the Lord does not mean to just sit doing nothing. As we walk with Him in ACTION, by applying His wisdom, there is a new song in our heart…..why…because we are not alone, because we have the tools to walk out of our pit of despair or struggle. Those tools are His wisdom and His love.
Psalms 40:2b-3a (NIV)
he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
I noticed that the Hebrew word translated as “rock” is “cela” [seh·lah], which has a meaning of “stronghold or place of security”.
We are brought from a place of despair, indeed a place of insecurity, to a place of hope and security…not through inaction (simply waiting and hoping for the best), but through action! As we apply God’s wisdom to our lives and seek His comfort and presence…..our feet are set on solid ground and we are steadied through our pain and despair. Our problems are no longer just ours alone to solve….but ours together, with Jesus, to walk through! It’s no wonder we sing a new song, a song of joy.
Scripture tells us that “He has given me a new song to sing”. I believe it is important to quit singing the “old song” of worldly wisdom, the old song of trying to handle life’s problems alone, and that we need to sing this “new song” of hope, of togetherness with Jesus. We should always put the glory where it belongs, with God, with Jesus!
Think of this….in a song, everything is in harmony, rhythmically together, and pleasing to our ears. Walk in harmony with God, rhythmically together with Jesus and you will be singing that new song!
Sing a NEW SONG! A hymn of worship and praise to the One who loves us enough to walk with us through the tough times as well as the good times, the one who bring us true hope!
Psalms 40:1-3 (NIV)
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.
May your feet be set upon the firm foundation of Jesus, may your life be lived on solid ground, and may YOU daily sing a hymn of praise to our Lord!
