I am going to ask something that sometimes is rare in our culture (this applies to me also). We live is a hustle bustle, “let me scan the book for the bottom line”, “let me hear the highlights kind of world”, don’t we?
This journey that we are on with Jesus in studying the Beatitudes, the attitudes of our life, is in my humble opinion, one of the greatest and most powerful lessons in the Bible……indeed one of the very greatest and most amazing teachings of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
I have built into this journey stops along the way to quietly reflect, meditate and savor His words of wisdom. Indeed, I believe, wisdom that when wrestled with and applied is life changing.
Here is what I want to ask you to do: Take a moment to meditate of these thoughts from Jesus. These attitudes are the basis for our living in the kingdom of God/ the kingdom of heaven with Jesus. These attitudes are the basis for our growing in joy, in peace, in happiness and in fulfillment of our lives.
So far, on this journey through the Beatitudes we have looked at “meekness”, “thirsting for righteousness”, being “poor in spirit”, recognizing our utter dependence on God and “mourning”, carrying about our world and those around us. Today we will look at the Beatitudes is a slightly different way.
–Here are the attitudes:
Blessed are the poor in spirit
Blessed are those who mourn
Blessed are the meek
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
Blessed are the merciful
Blessed are the pure in heart
Blessed are the peacemakers
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of Righteousness
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Jesus.
–Here are the blessings:
for yours is the kingdom of heaven.
you will be comforted.
you will inherit the earth.
you will be filled.
you will be shown mercy.
we will see God.
we will be called children of God.
for ours is the kingdom of heaven.
We can rejoice and we can be glad, because great is our reward in our life with Jesus as king in our lives!
