I talk to my wife on the phone whenever I leave my office and often a couple of times during the day. I love when we are able to do things together, without all of life’s distractions, so that we can just “BE”…..together. Why? To me, this is an expression of our love and trust for each other. We share a special bond. I long to be near her each day. I trust in her counsel and just plain enjoy being with her.
Prayer is the same way with God. I talk to God, sometimes it seems, all day long….when I wake, and sometimes even in my sleep. I love my “quiet time” each day, away from life’s distractions, so that we can just “Be”…together. Prayer, talking with God and listening to Him in my heart and life, are expressions of my love and trust for God, indeed, for Jesus. With both God as well as my wife, our relationships have been built on this solid ground of love and trust.
“Being” together, no matter how it is: in conversation, in presence, on FaceBook, by email…..is a moment-by moment necessity in our lives. It’s a vital link to “my” life. With both God and my wife, “being” together is the intimacy I long for each day….to share my life with another.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (TNIV)
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Communication with each other and “being” together builds a foundational trust in our lives. Our actions day to day build on that trust.
Trusting God is not always so easy for people. It takes a sincere heartfelt faith. Trust is not simple belief. Trust is not merely professing religious words. It takes a genuine, authentic trust and a sincere faith to face the challenges each day in our lives.
A Greek word translated as “peace” is “eirene” [i-rah-nay], it is an inner quietness and trust in God’s will even in the face of tough times.
This trust is built by seeking a relationship with Him (communicating) and applying His wisdom to our lives and seeing, indeed living, the outcome. Let God’s peace live in you….. through trust in Him.
Psalms 46: 1 & 10 (TNIV)
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
[God talking, says in verse 10:] “Be still, and know that I am God”Romans 15:13 (TNIV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
And may you share your life with the God of the universe, indeed, with Jesus Himself each and every day.
