A young man saw an elderly couple sitting down to lunch at McDonald’s. They had ordered one meal, and an extra drink cup. As he watched, the man carefully divided the hamburger in half, and then counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each had half of them. Then he poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup and set that in front of his wife. The old man then began to eat, and his wife sat watching, with her hands folded in her lap.
The young man decided to ask if they would allow him to purchase another meal for them so that they didn’t have to split theirs. The old gentleman said, “Oh no. We’ve been married 50 years, and everything has always been and will always be shared, 50/50.”
The young man then asked the wife if she was going to eat, and she replied, “It’s his turn with the teeth.”
Mark 13:10 (TNIV)
And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.
Ahh…..sharing the gospel…….so you work in an office, you’re a student, a stay-at-home mom, or anything but a preacher. So…..verse 10 doesn’t apply to you. After all, it’s not always easy to share the Gospel, right? You know where I am going with this, don’t you?
The most important thing we can share is our testimony. When we share what God, indeed, when we share what Jesus is doing in our lives in answering prayer, aligning all the right things for a answered prayer, blessing us, our friends and family…..we are sharing the Good news that Jesus is ALIVE and involved in our lives.
Verbal things you can share as they come up in conversation: — Answers to prayer: both positive answers as well as those times that our prayers are answered in ways we didn’t envision. Some people would see some of these times as “unanswered prayer”. Often, I see in my life that God has a better plan. And yes, sometimes It takes time for me to see it.
— Times in your life that you can definitely see God in control in your life. The only way that I can articulate this is that there are many times in my life that I have seen God cross my path with somebody (and/or answered prayer/s) and things have seemed to align in such a way that I could not have orchestrated better even if I tried!
— Times in your life when you have seen God working in the lives of your friends and family and answered their prayers.
— Changes that have taken place in your life when you applied lessons of forgiveness, loving your enemies, humbleness, etc.
Yes, when we choose to do what is right instead of what is wrong, when we help someone, when we feed to hungry, listen to those in need and share our what Jesus is doing in our life. When we share His love, His comfort and what a great thing it is to have Him in our lives…..we are preaching the Gospel louder than any preacher.
You don’t have to be a speaker to share Jesus. Just share your life and the relationship you have with Him.
So very often we read this verse, “And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.” and we think it means that we have to go to another country to share Jesus. There are people who need Jesus right in this country….and yes, we are a nation.
