I remember Alfred E. Neuman on the cover of Mad Magazine. His biggest thought was, “What, me worry?” Often, it seems like we have a lot of worries in life. Do you ever feel like Jesus, indeed God, is so busy with the bigger things in this world that He couldn’t possibly be aware of what is going on with you and your needs? Just as Jesus was concerned about what a crowd of 4,000 and their need for food…….He is concerned about what is going on in your life and your daily needs!
Mark 8:1-3 (TNIV)
1 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
Jesus was moved with compassion as he fed another crowd of hungry people….hungry for His words of wisdom, love, and redemption….but also hungry for food. We cook a meal at Grace and Grits on Wednesdays to feed 200-250 hungry people. Our band, the Vicar Bry Band, plays each Wednesday with a much loftier Spiritual goal in mind…..to feed hope, redemption, love and compassion to those listening.
Jesus simply loved these people and thought they needed food. Should we love others without condition? Should be find joy in helping to meet people’s basic needs? Should we reach out with the message of Jesus to feed their hearts and souls?
Matthew 6:31-32 (TNIV)
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Jesus knows that in life you have come a long way. He knows that you might be at the point of collapse. There is nothing that is too big for Him to handle, indeed, Jesus rose from the grave to give you this new life, to give you the opportunity for redemption. Jesus fed thousands upon thousands and met their basic needs without condition……He wants to feed you!
So, crack a big smile, look at Jesus and say, “Lord, I love you! Thank you for caring about me! What…..me worry? I have you!”
At the point of collapse…. yes indeed. But every time I have been at that point, someone was sent into my life to catch me. I am so thankful for that. It’s so difficult not to worry, but so good to know we can give those worries to the Lord!
Amen Jeanne 🙂 God bless!
