My wife and I are in the middle of a spring cleaning in our home. I am off on Friday’s and she spent the day watching our Grandkids while my daughter works. I called her throughout the day to let her know exactly what I had been accomplishing. “Shampooed the carpets and sorted out a bunch of stuff in the storage room”, I reported to her. I often do the same thing at work, I’ll tell Pastor Phil, “Just an update boss, got the monthly reconciliation done and those reports for the elders.” I keep them informed about my activities mainly to keep myself focused on the task at hand.
Mark 6:30-31 (TNIV)
30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
The disciples were sent out two-by-two earlier (Mark 6:7-13) on their first evangelistic mission. Here, they are reporting back to Jesus.
Here’s an interesting thought…….maybe it would be a good exercise for US, and maybe it would keep US focused if we told Jesus every day how we had applied HIS message of hope to our lives and how we SHARED His message with others. By doing so, we would not only stay a little more focused, we could seek His guidance for the next step in our lives.
I always say “work hard–play hard”. Really what that means is to make sure you take some time to relax and refresh. Our body needs rest and just as importantly…..our soul needs to refresh. This, I believe is one of the keys to success. Work hard and develop a healthy rhythm of rest….refresh your heart, your mind and in doing so…refresh your soul to be able to go out and love others even more the next day.
Jesus sends us out each day to share His wisdom, often times in words…..but even more often in our actions! Curbing our anger and reacting in healthy ways to the activities going on around us. Helping those in need taking care of the ones we love. He also wants us take the time each day to reflect and to rest. Spend time in prayer each day. Let Jesus know where your focus is. “Work hard-Play Hard”…a healthy rhythm to life!
